POSITIVE THINKING GUIDEPOSTS

Positive Thinking Guidepost 1 -
Positive thinking is the natural software for your mind. It's
more than a good idea. It's how God designed your mind to work.
Positive thinking works because it's the
natural software for your mind. God designed a positive software package
that would permit your mind to function at full capacity and maximum
efficiency. He created your mind to work best with a positive operating
system.
Negative thinking doesn't work well, because your mind was not designed to
function with a negative operating system. Although your mind is an
awesome biocomputer, it will not function well using the wrong software.
Severely depressed people run a negative operating system most of the
time, and they illustrate how bad things can get when negative thinking
takes control.
Positive thinking truly is the right type of thinking. Positive thinking
is more than a good idea. It's the way your mind was designed to work.
God designed your mind to function best when it’s under the influence of
positive beliefs.
Positive thinking will not make your life perfect. It will not make all
your problems disappear or prevent serious illness and accidents.
Nevertheless, positive thinking will make your life immeasurably
better. No amount of positive thinking will take something bad and turn it
into something good; however, positive thinking will turn it into
something better. No matter how negative your life is, thinking positive
makes it better.
Positive thoughts are like a giant magnet that attracts good things. The
more positive thoughts you put into your mind, the stronger the positive
magnet becomes, and the more your life improves. Positive thoughts
don’t just pop into your mind. You put them there on purpose, one
thought at a time. When you fill your mind with positive thoughts,
it’s not long before a positive operating system is up and running.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 2 - Positive Thinking is the summation of
all the positive things that you have put into your mind. Negative
thinking is the summation of all the toxic waste that you have allowed
into your mind.
Your mind is
like a giant adding machine that sums up what you have put into your
mind. When you fill your mind with positive
things, the positive thoughts will control and dominate your mind,
because that is what you have inside. If you are having a problem with
negative thoughts, it because that is what is inside your mind. If you
want to have different thoughts, you must put different things inside.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 3 - Positive thinking is the result of
putting positive things into your mind. It's a sign that you have
filled your mind with positive things. Trying to think positive
without first putting positive things into your mind is a waste of time.
It will not work.
Positive thinking confuses many people.
They don't understand why it's so hard to develop a positive mind. They
sincerely want to become a positive person, but they don't have a clue as
to how they can make it happen. No matter how hard they try to think
positive thoughts, they end up with negative ones instead.
They have a fundamental
misunderstanding of how you create a positive mind. They try to
think positive thoughts by trying to think positive thoughts - a
strategy that does not work. The reason is simple. A
negative mind does not have positive thoughts inside, and whatever you
have inside your mind is what is going to come out. No matter how
hard you try to be positive, and no matter how much you want to be positive, if
you have a negative mind, you will have negative thoughts.
Positive thinking is the result
of putting positive things into your mind. It's a sign that you have
filled your mind with positive things.
Trying to think positive thoughts without first putting positive things
into your mind is a waste of time. It won't work and cannot work. It's
impossible to get positive thoughts out of a negative mind. If there
aren't any positive thoughts in your mind, then there is nothing
positive that can come out.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 4 - There is a difference between thinking
positive and putting positive things into your mind. You can't
think positive unless you already have positive things in your mind.
Filling your mind with positive
things must come first. That's why it's imperative that you
control what gets into your mind.
If you fill your mind with toxic
waste, you will end up with a negative mind. It's not a mystery. If
you fill a bucket with water, when you empty the bucket, water is what
comes out. If you fill your mental bucket with positive things, then
when you empty your mental bucket, positive thoughts flow out.
Trying to
think positive thoughts without having a mind full of positive things
will not work. It's impossible. It's like trying to sing a song that
has no words. If you want to think positive, first you must put
positive things into your mind.
Positive Thinking Guidepost 5 - The wheel of change always turns in the
direction of what you put into your mind.
If you
want to move in a new direction, you need to put new thoughts into your
mind. The wheel of change always turns in the direction of what you put
into your mind. That's why your thoughts are so important; they determine
the course of your life.
You are not helpless, and your life is not hopeless. Your life
instantly improves the moment you start putting good things into your
mind. The simple act of reading these positive words turns the wheel of
change in a positive direction, and every paragraph you read makes you
into a more positive person.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 6 - What you put into your mind is your
steering wheel. Each new thought steers your life in a new
direction.
Lots of folks are discouraged by all their problems. Mountains of
adversity surround them on all sides. Sometimes they feel like there is
no hope, and as long as they think only about all their problems, they are
right. But the instant they put new and positive thoughts into their
mind, the wheel of change turns their life in a completely different
direction, and they leave their problems behind.
You actually push your mind in
a positive direction by putting positive and healthy thoughts into your
mind. If you put enough positive thoughts into your mind, you can
actually create a positive brain.
Thoughts are the seeds of your life.
Every destination starts as a thought. Your dreams don't happen by
themselves. You think and act them into existence.
You can go anywhere you want as long as
you are willing to think the thoughts that take you there.
You have to be careful about the thoughts you think, because they
determine the direction of your life.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 7 - You create a positive mind by focusing
on positive things. A persistently positive focus creates a
consistently positive mind.
In order to control your thoughts, you will have to learn how
to persistently and consistently control the focus of your mind.
The war for a positive mind is fought on the
battlefield of focus. When you control your focus, you control your
thoughts and emotions. A positive focus pushes your heart and mind in a
positive direction.
A positive focus gives you powerful leverage over
your mind. When you focus on a thought, it forces your mind to look in
the direction of that thought. When you focus on it for a minute, you
push your mind in that direction for a minute. When you consistently
focus on it for weeks and months, your life moves in that direction.
Your positive focus creates a positive life.
You can think only one thought at a time. When
you focus on a thought, you displace all others from your mind. A
positive focus enables you to displace unwanted negative thoughts with
positive ones. You displace limiting thoughts with empowering ones.
A positive focus gives you the leverage you need to
push your mind in a positive direction.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 8 -
You have a lot of things to discuss
with your mind, and everything you say needs to be positive.
Nothing can stop the self-talk that flows
endlessly through your mind. Your inner voice is like that of a sports
commentator who won’t stop talking and refuses to go away. He
relentlessly comments on how you play the game of life until the day you
die.
Any attempt to squelch the inner voice
is doomed to failure. It’s a gift that never stops giving. This voice
from the past is in replay mode during all your waking hours. Escape
from it is impossible, and there are no mental earplugs that can silence
it. Drugs and alcohol may temporarily muffle and distort the sound, but
when the chemicals wear off, the voice is still there. Although you
can’t stop the inner voice, you can always influence it, and often can
control what it has to say.
You
must know what to say when your mind talks to you, and know what to say
when you talk to your mind.
You have a lot of things to say to your mind, and everything you say
needs to be positive.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 9 -
If you don't like the things
you hear when your mind talks to you, you have the power to change the
message. If you want to change the message, you must repeat positive
thoughts until your mind repeats them back to you.
Mental rewind beats you into submission
with repetitive thoughts. The mind replays the same thoughts over and
over, and the more irritating and troublesome the thoughts, the more the
mind goes into rewind and plays them again and again. Rewind acts like
an out of control masochistic machine intent on driving you crazy.
Mental rewind is an inescapable fact of life. No matter what you do,
mental rewind and instant replay never go away. You need to develop
strategies to turn rewind into something good. You need to use rewind
to make your life better.
Rewind would be great if it replayed positive thoughts and reinforced
your dreams. Unfortunately, too much of the time, mental rewind is an
exercise in self-destruction. Prickly negative thoughts relentlessly
inflict their misery upon your heart and mind. But it doesn't have to
be that way. There are lots of things you can do to make rewind into an
asset that replays positive thoughts on demand.
If you don't like what you hear when you go into rewind, you have the
power to change the message.
Here is a list of things you can do to turn rewind and instant replay
into your new best friend.
Learn the power of
Maximum Strength Positive Thinking

about.
Positive Self-Talk tells you what to say when your mind talks to
you. You can change the way you think and feel by changing what you way
when you talk to you mind. Tweak your mental rewind with

Positive Affirmations transform mental rewind so it starts
working in your favor. Your inner emotional critic must be shown the
truth many times before it will believe. When you go into rewind and
repeat positive affirmations, you overwhelm the inner skeptic and change
the way you feel. Rewind helps you become a positive person.
Positive Praise helps you remember how God worked in your life in
the past. It connects you with God in the present, and it affirms God's
power and presence in the future. When rewind starts replaying words of
praise and singing songs of praise, the chains of lack, limitation,
captivity and addiction disappear.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 11 - You can change
who you are by changing what you put into your mind.
The Supreme Law of Change
states, "You can change who you are by changing what you put into
your mind". This law is incredibly powerful and makes your life
better or worse depending upon what you put into your mind. The Supreme
Law of Change is irrevocable and unavoidable. You can’t walk around it
or escape from it. It’s ever present and controls the outcome of your
life. This law hides in plain sight and is so obvious hardly anyone
pays attention to it.
Everyone has the opportunity to make
their life better by putting good things into their mind. Instead,
people ruin their lives by polluting their minds with toxic waste.
Their minds become full of anxiety and stress as they let Hollywood and
the media dump the garbage in. Their dreams become nightmares because
of what they put into their mind.
God gave you a good mind, and
He expects you to fill it with good things. Your mind is not a dumpster
for the toxic waste of the twenty-first century. You don't want to
allow negative thoughts and limitations to fill your mind.
The Apostle Paul made it very clear what we should put into our minds.
He said,
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable, whatever is excellent, or worthy of praise, think on these
things.”
If you want to have a positive mind,
you absolutely must control what goes into it and make sure it is
positive. There is no other way.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 12 - When you change the things you look
at, the way you look at things changes.
You either sink or swim in an ocean of images and sounds that
assault your mind every minute of the day. Fifty inch wide screen
televisions with surround sound push your mind in a hundred different
directions. Unfortunately, too much of the media is nothing more
than mental toxic waste, and when you allow it into your mind, it
remains there forever. It's easy to get in, but impossible to
remove.
If your mind had a button you could press, and instantly you could flush
the toxic waste out of your mind, it would not matter that much what got
into your mind. But there aren't any flush levers in your mind.
Whatever gets inside stays forever. Periodically, the toxic waste
floats to the surface and comes out for all the world to see, and
sometimes it comes out at the worst of times.
The fact that you can't get the toxic
waste out is bad enough, but what's even worse is the fact that the
toxic waste changes who you are and makes you into a different person.
You need to be extremely careful
about what you allow into your mind, because it changes who you are.
If you let the media dump the garbage in, it won't be long until your
mind becomes a wasteland full of toxic thoughts that make you sick.
Newborn children are as clean and pure on the inside
as fresh fallen snow. But it doesn't take long for the world to
pollute them with mental toxic waste. By the time they are
eighteen years old, their sullied minds qualify as a superfund toxic
waste cleanup site. Unfortunately, it's a thousand times easier to
clean up a superfund site, than it is to clean up the pollution and
negative programming lurking inside a human mind. And when
that mind lives in a drug induced fog, cleaning out the toxic waste is
nearly impossible.
Since mental clean up is so
difficult, the most sensible thing to do is to never allow toxic
negative thoughts into your mind.
Most of us already have too much
mental pollution, and we long to return to the childlike state of a
clean mind and a pure heart. There is good news for those of us
who want to become clean again. Although we may not be able to
remove all the toxic waste, we have the power to change the way we think
and feel. We have leverage that allows us to look at ourselves and
the world through eyes of possibility and love.
There are lots of things we can do to create positive change in our
hearts and minds. A good place to start is to change the things
that you look at. When you change the things you look at, the way
you look at things changes. When you look at positive things, you
start to look at things in a positive manner.
It really does matter what you look at because it
shapes your perceptions of the world.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 13 - When you change the things you talk
about, the way you talk about things changes.
What you talk about matters a great deal because it changes who you
are. When you change the things you talk about, the way you talk
about things changes.
When your talk is positive, good things start to happen and the way you
talk about your life changes as well. When your talk is negative,
misery and limitations become your unwanted guests. Jesus taught that
you are to talk to your problems and not about them.
When you talk about your problems with everyone, you magnify those
challenges until they become a stronghold in your mind. They occupy the
high ground and rooting them out is difficult. Every time you talk
about your problems, you increase their power. When you focus on them,
they become stronger, and you become weaker.
Jesus said that if you have faith the size of a grain of mustard seed,
you can tell a mountain to move into the sea, and it will happen.
Jesus wants you to be a mountain mover, and he wants you to talk to your
problems rather than talk about them.
Jesus used his mountain story to make an important point. You have to
talk to the mountains in your life before they will move. All of your
problems - your mountains - are waiting to hear from you, and if you
start speaking works of faith, your mountains will move.
No matter what your problem, you must talk to it.
If you are depressed, you must talk to your depression and start pushing
back. Tell your depression that God's love is the most positive and
most powerful force in the universe, and His love is filling your heart
and mind. Tell your depression that you are made in the image of God,
and that God loves and accepts you the way you are. Tell your
depression that God's love changes the way you think and feel. You are
a new person with a new life.
If your life is full of problems, don't make matters worse by
commiserating over your problems with everyone you meet. Instead, start
talking to your mountains and cast them into the sea.
Jesus once asked a sick man if he wanted to be healed. This was not an
academic question. It addressed the heart and soul of what it takes to
get well. The first step in getting well is wanting to get better and
expecting to get better.
When you want to get better, and you expect to get better, you will no
longer talk about your problems. You will start talking to your
problems and mountains will start moving in your life.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 14 - When you change the things you think
about, the way you think about things changes.
I have more than 200 websites on the
Positive
Thinking Network and the
Positive Human
Network. Every day, I use these positive websites to
change the things that I think about. These websites push my mind
in a positive direction, and because of them, the way that I think about
myself and my world changes.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 15 - You don't get what you want. You
get what you expect. As you believe, so shall it be done unto you.
Jesus
created a world ruled by positive expectations. You don't get what you
want. You get what you expect. It doesn't matter if your expectations
are positive or negative, you will get what you expect.
Jesus
understood the laws of the moral universe because he created those
laws. He knew how things work. When he tells us how to live, he isn't
just giving good advice. He is stating in absolute and unequivocal
terms the way he made things work. That's why he said, "As you believe,
so shall it be done unto you. Jesus created a universe in which
expectations rule. It doesn't matter that much what you want. It's
what you expect that counts.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 16 - When your mind is full of thoughts
consistent with God's love, your mind is exactly the way God means for it
to be.
God created
us in his image, and He gave us the ability to think and feel. It's
reasonable to assume that God must have designed our minds to function
best when we fill our minds with certain types of thoughts. It's also
reasonable to assume that God designed our hearts to function best when
certain types of emotions fill our heart.
The creator of the universe actually did have a plan for our hearts and
minds. When your mind is full of thoughts consistent with God's
love, your mind is exactly the way God means for it to be.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 17 - When your heart is full of emotions
consistent with God's love, your emotions are healthy, and they are
exactly the way God means for them to be.
The normal state of affairs for the human heart and mind is for
thoughts to be positive and for emotions to be healthy. They are exactly
the way God means for them to be.
When dysfunction, despair, depression,
negativity and anxiety take over your heart and mind, you are not thinking
the way that God thinks. You have it all wrong, and until you get it
right, your life will be harder than it needs to be, and if you fill your
heart and mind with the toxic waste of the twenty-first century, there is
a good chance you will become sick.
The cure for what ails the human heart and mind is a liberal dose of God's
love. You must fill your mind with thoughts that are consistent with
God's love until those thoughts reign supreme. You must fill your heart
with emotions consistent with God's love to drive the toxic negative
emotions out of your mind. You must learn to think thoughts of love, and
let that love percolate down into your heart so that you start feeling
good once again.

Positive Thinking Guidepost 18 -
You are never more like God than when you are loving
other people.
The Bible says you are made in the image of God. You bear God's
likeness.
The image of God has nothing to do with our physical
bodies. God is a Spirit, and when we dare to call God our Father, we
are born spiritually. We become spiritually alive and resemble our
Father who is also a Spirit.
Spiritual birth is only the first step we take as we
assume the image of God. Once we are alive spiritually, we partake
in the nature of God. We become instruments and ambassadors of
unconditional love.
Jesus said, "Hereby will men know that you are one of
my disciples, because you love one another." The hallmark and proof
of spiritual birth is love. God is love and works by love, and by
nothing else than love. The power and presence of God in the world
is love. Every time you see love, you see God's hand at work in the
world. God's arms of love are your arms. God's hands of love
are your hands. God heart of love is your heart.
You are never more like God than when you are loving
other people. When your heart is full of love, you bear a clear and
unmistakable resemblance to God. You are made in the image of God.
